First off, thank you for reading. This is a big step for me and will be my main focus for the next unspecified number of months, and it’s good to have you here.

5 Products 5 Days is an entrepreneurial journey that will follow me (Geoffrey) as I design, create, implement, and launch 5 distinct products that will be released over a period of 5 days.  This journey will document all of the steps from the legal, business, marketing, prototyping, sales, technology, and design aspects using blogs, videos, interviews, and interacting with other people in the community.  There is no set time-frame for creating the 5 products, and each product is different and will take a varied amount of time.

Wow…that sounds kind of crazy fun.  Why would you do something like this?

I have been an entrepreneur for several years now, and it has been my goal for quite some time to be an entrepreneur.  Entrepreneurship is genetic… great-grandfather started a company in the early 1930s that is still going strong today.  My parent’s have owned and operated their company since I was in high-school and my brother has a heavy hand in the company now.

Personally, my journey started because of Twilio.  I was on a business trip and had some extra time on my hand, which coincided closely with Twilio’s release of SMS support in their API.  For the non tech-nerds, this meant that they now let you send and receive text messages from a program very easily.  It also coincided with a contest Twilio was putting on, to write an application that used text messages.  In a matter of a couple of days, I wrote the first version of what would end up being Diner Connection, and I won the contest (awww yeah, check out that good looking guy in the Tuxedo).

Restaurants contacted me immediately after my contest win and were very interested in getting it in their restaurant.  Within two weeks of the contest win, I had Diner Connection being used in restaurants.  I went from no product to having a product being used by customers in under 3 weeks.  To say I was stoked would be an understatement.

Here I am, more than four years later, and Diner Connection is still going strong.  But……..What I’m best at is creating products.  I have been creating products for other people for years, and that’s what I’m best at, so why am I sitting here not creating products?  Like so many entrepreneurs, I have so many ideas, and a few of them have been festering for a **long** time.

It is time that I get to work….I can no longer rest on my laurels of my past successes.  This journey is as much to challenge myself as it is to inspire others.

Why now?

This is a big one, and the answer is very personal.  I’ll preface this by saying that I’m not big into holidays or celebrations.  I enjoy getting together with my family and enjoying good times and good food, but the whole holiday and celebration thing just doesn’t get my spirits up, and sometimes it does the opposite. Today is a special day in my life, and it’s time to start fresh.

What happened to your other company…you know…that Moxie Software one?

Funny you should ask (ok, I asked myself).  There are problems.  I will save the details for another post, but to sum it up, there are two big problems.  1) I can not legally trademark “Moxie Software” and 2) The ownership of Moxie Software is currently in limbo.  Problem #1 involves attorneys and has been an ongoing issue for several years now, and problem #2 stems from my poor decision of a business partner.

What can we expect to see in this journey?

Here’s the plan…..from the beginning I will be posting at least twice a week about my progress on the 5 products and about the other stuff that goes along with building these products.  A significant part of the process involves things not related to the products themselves, but the legal and business aspects that are involved, such as forming an LLC (or not), copyrights, trademarks, bank accounts, setting up a website, choosing a marketing automation solutions, etc….once you stop to think about all the pieces that go into building a company, it can become overwhelming.  You are part of the journey too.  This hopefully will not be a one way communication (me to you) but it will become a conversation between us.  I don’t know exactly how this will go, but I’m going to go forward with it, and enjoy learning more about everything.

Lets go….

I’ve already started, and I will be detailing more about what I have already done in the upcoming weeks.  There is a lot of ground to cover, and a lot of work to do.  Thank you again for joining me.

one more thing….(ok, maybe two)

Today is also the launch of my company Spiked Mace Software, which is the company that the software products will be launched under.  Right now we just have a really cool logo, so go check it out at
